Darling Harbour has never exactly been shy, but W Sydney has taken things to another level.

The long-awaited hotel officially opened in October 2023, bringing a bold new luxury stay to one of the city's busiest waterfront precincts.

With its curved architecture and high-energy design, W Sydney was never going to be a quiet addition to the skyline. The hotel includes hundreds of rooms, a rooftop bar, dining and entertainment spaces, a gym, and a pool deck designed to make the most of Darling Harbour views.

One of the standout features is the WET Deck, which includes a 30-metre open-air infinity pool with a vivid jellyfish mosaic. It is exactly the kind of detail the W brand leans into — playful, polished and built for people who like their hotel stay with a bit of theatre.

The opening also matters for Darling Harbour. For years, the precinct has been a mix of tourist magnet, convention zone, family outing spot and nightlife destination. W Sydney adds a more design-driven, luxury-hospitality layer to that mix.

It is not trying to be a quiet boutique hotel hidden down a laneway. It is big, glossy and very visible. That will not be for everyone, but it does give Sydney another option for travellers who want to stay somewhere that feels more like an experience than just accommodation.

Whether you are checking in, heading up for a drink, or just looking at the building from across the water, W Sydney has arrived with one clear message: subtle is not the point.
