Sydney's prestige property market has a habit of producing homes that feel almost unreal — and Menulog founder Leon Kamenev's Vaucluse mansion is one of them.

The tech entrepreneur, who made a fortune from the sale of online food delivery platform Menulog, has been linked to a newly completed waterfront home that has drawn attention for its scale, build cost and position in one of Sydney's most expensive suburbs.

According to reports, Kamenev bought the prime waterfront site in 2016 after Menulog's success helped place him among Australia's wealthiest business figures. The site was made up of multiple properties and reportedly cost around $80 million.

What followed was not a quick renovation. The original plan was for a French-style chateau, but after planning hurdles, the project shifted toward a more contemporary design. The home was eventually completed after years of planning and building, with the construction cost reported to be more than $30 million.

Photos of the property emerged through the Master Builders Association NSW awards, where the builder, Pimas Gale, won in the $30 million-plus residential contract category.

The result is the type of home that gets Sydney talking: waterfront, private, architecturally ambitious and potentially worth more than $200 million if it ever hit the market.

It is also a very Sydney kind of business story. A founder builds a digital platform, sells it, and years later the city gets a glimpse of where that success can lead. For most people, it is less a home and more a spectacle.

"In Sydney's ultra-prestige market, homes like this are not just places to live — they become landmarks of wealth and ambition."
